LE GOUTER DES AIDANTS
Thursday 20 February, 2pm to 4pm > Organised by the Saint-Cyprien local authority and the CCAS.
Free monthly get-togethers for carers to discuss, support each other and get help.
Monthly snacks for carers!
To provide support and assistance to people caring for disabled or sick relatives, the Saint-Cyprien commune is launching the "Goûters des aidants" (Caregivers' snacks). These get-togethers will be held at the Salle Génin de Règnes on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4pm.
The first will take place on Thursday 16 January.
All too often, the carers of disabled or sick people are isolated, and in addition to the burden of providing day-to-day support for a loved one who has lost all or part of their independence, many of them are gradually having to give up their social lives. Not to mention the helplessness some of them feel when faced with the administrative formalities they have to deal with.
To support them, offer them appropriate assistance and enable them to get out of their isolation through contact with other carers, Saint-Cyprien Town Hall is launching the "Goûter des aidants" (a snack for carers) at the start of the year.
These get-togethers will take place on the Place Génin de Règnes, in the village, on the first Thursday of each month from 2pm to 4pm, in the presence of a nurse and an agent from the CCAS (Centre communal d'action sociale).
The aim is to enable carers to take a little time out for themselves.
The purpose of these snacks is to give carers the chance to get together, talk things over, make new friends and break out of their isolation. They will be welcomed by the nurse, who will be on hand to answer any questions they may have, while the CCAS agent will guide those who need help.
CCAS staff will be on hand to help with administrative and other formalities.
"Our aim," explains Mayor Thierry Del Poso, "is to identify the carers in our area, whatever the disability of the person they are supporting, and to help them find solutions to the problems they face (formalities, putting together files, setting up assistance schemes such as transport on demand, etc.), while creating a genuine 'carers-social services' network".
The first of these get-togethers will take place on Thursday 16 January at 2pm. All carers in the commune are invited (free of charge).
Please note, however, that they are not intended for people receiving care, whom the CCAS is unable to accommodate at the moment.
So if you're a carer, don't hesitate!
